From Friday, August 5 to Sunday, August 7, the Palestinian terror group Palestinian Islamic Jihad launched over 1,000 rockets into Israel. Defense Minister Gantz said the IDF achieved three clear objectives in Operation Breaking Dawn, Israel’s response to the attacks. First, removing the immediate threat to residents of the Gaza border region. Second, maintaining operational freedom of action. Third, preserving deterrence against enemies who threaten Israeli citizens and sovereignty.
Prime Minister Lapid offered the Palestinians an alternative to conflict and attacks against Israel. “We know how to protect ourselves from anyone who threatens us, but we also know how to provide work, livelihood, and a life of dignity to anyone who wants to live in peace by our side.”
Unfortunately, too often the Palestinian terror groups have selected conflict and violence, not peace and dignity. The ceasefire began at 11:30 p.m. Sunday night. Israel lifted all restrictions on the home front Monday at noon. These will remain open until “the next inevitable round of fighting.”
Israel makes the choice clear to the Palestinians: peace and stability, or conflict and bloodshed.
