On Saturday, July 20, 2019 Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu became Israel’s longest serving Prime Minister. He displaced founding Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion who served Israel from her birth in 1948. In overtaking David Ben-Gurion, this saying holds true for him, ‘A Founding Father is always beyond reproach.’ With his current difficulties of preparing for a new election in September along with his legal issues, he has rough waters to navigate, now and for the future.
His biggest challenge and top priority for his agenda, however, remains Iran’s race and desire for nuclear weapons. He has staunchly maintained, especially at the U.N. that Iran must not be able to achieve their nuclear aims. He famously presented the issue at the United Nations with his chart showing when the Iranian nuclear threat would reach its point of no return, his red line.
Though he faces these major challenges at this moment, we join in congratulating Prime Minister Netanyahu on his monumental achievement of the longest serving prime minister. Please uphold him in prayer now and in the coming days. “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings, and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
