Iran is discussing reviving its nuclear deal with the U.S., and it could mean disaster for Israel. Originally signed in 2015 and abandoned in 2018, the deal would alleviate financial and trade sanctions on Iran in exchange for curbing its uranium enrichment. Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it “a horrible deal, a dangerous deal… a golden-paved highway to a nuclear arsenal.” Current Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said the deal “would give Iran a hundred billion dollars a year … that will be used to undermine stability in the Middle East and spread terror around the globe.”
If this deal is put back in place, Iran will grow much richer than it would without a deal. If that happens, Iran’s flimsy promise would be the only thing standing between relative stability in the Middle East and the country using that money to more quickly develop nuclear weapons with a bullseye on Israel’s back. This deal could be catastrophic assuming Iran does what we expect it to: Use its new wealth to grow stronger and attack Israel. Iran is already a dangerous enemy for Israel—one with much more manpower than the Jewish state. Maintaining and making peace pacts with other Arab countries will help in the meantime as Israel plans its defense against Iran, but only God truly provides Israel’s safety and determines its fate.
